As with all the Trial Versions, you get to play a single battle, but that will let you experience the flavour of what a Close Combat engagement is like, but what it cannot do is give you the experience of following your Battle Group through Operations and Campaigns, and tracks your Soldiers and Units as they perform heroically, surrender, or worse. All have names, and all are under your command.
The graphics are a big step up from the first Close Combat release, but may seem a bit dated by modern standard. But don't be put off.
The game play reveals the excellent morale modelling that still makes Close Combat one of the best tactical simulation you can find.
As far as the full game goes, this is my favourite for the way it tracks a single Battle Group through Operations and Campaigns, and the way it uses the Points system to give you the ability to replenish and upgrade your Units. And my favourite of all being Cross of Iron in which I was involved with developing.
